LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team picked up their first Iowa Conference victory on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the University of Dubuque, 3-2, in IIAC action at Abel Stadium.

NWU improves to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in IIAAC play with Dubuque falling to 5-5-1, 1-1 IIAC.

The Prairie Wolves jumped ahead early as
Syd Nelson took a beautiful pass from
Katelin Blosser and found the open net just over seven minutes into the match. That goal put the Prairie Wolves ahead 1-0 early in the match.

Dubuque didn't waste a lot of time to respond as Shelby Nicholson scored in the 13
th minute to tie the score at 1-1. That score of 1-1 would remain until the intermission as the teams went into the locker room tied at 1-1.

NWU came out of the locker room inspired to get the initial win in their new conference. In the 62
nd minute
Shannon Jerram scored off another assist from
Katelin Blosser. The Jerram goal put NWU ahead 2-1. They would add to that lead in the 72
nd minute with another goal this time from
Laurel Heskett.

The Prairie Wolves did allow one goal in the final seconds when a large group of players battled for control of the ball right in front of the goal after a corner kick. Eventually the officials gave a goal to the Spartans but it was too late as NWU came away with the one goal win.

NWU finished the match with 14 total shots, compared to 16 for Dubuque.
Madi Francis did have 10 saves in goal for the Prairie Wolves.
