LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan and Concordia University played for the first time as non-conference opponents in men's soccer and ended the match in a 2-2 draw in double overtime.
The Prairie Wolves and Bulldogs battled hard for 110 minutes, but in the end neither team could score a goal during the overtime periods. Concordia had several chances for the game-winner, but the tough NWU defense held strong and made outstanding plays to force the draw.
NWU got the scoring started in the first half as
Chris Elbracht scored his first goal of the season. The goal came in the 22
nd minute to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 1-0. That 1-0 score would hold up heading into halftime.
Concordia then struck early in the second half as Micah Lehenbauer tied the match at 1-1, just over three minutes into the second half of play. Less than five mintues later the Bulldogs scored again as Tyler Jensen found the back of the net to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1.
Freshman
Tanner Wood saved a good time for his first career collegiate goal as he scored in the 75
th minute to tie the match at 2-2. That would end up being the final score.
The Bulldogs (3-1-2) ended the match with 21 total shots, compared to 10 for the Prairie Wolves. NWU goalkeeper
Jack Nespor had a solid day for the Prairie Wolves recording eight saves.
Nebraska Wesleyan moves to 4-1-3 on the season and will begin Iowa Conference play this Saturday (Sept. 24) when they host Loras College for Homecoming. Loras was the 2015 NCAA III National Runner-up.
