Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Loras Scores Late to Earn 4-2 Win

LINCOLN, Neb. – Two late goals by Loras College ruined the Iowa Conference opener for the Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team as the Duhawks defeated the Prairie Wolves 4-2 on Sunday afternoon to conclude 2016 Homecoming festivities on the NWU campus.

NWU falls to 4-2-3 overall and 0-1 in IIAC play, while Loras improves to 4-2 and 1-0 in IIAC action.  It was a great early test for the Prairie Wolves to see how they stack up against the best in the new league as Loras made it all the way to the NCAA III Championship match in 2015.

The Prairie Wolves jumped ahead early as senior Drew Miller scored his second goal of the year on an assist from Tanner Wood.  The goal came in the 15th minute to put NWU up 1-0.  That looked to be the score heading  into the locker room at halftime, but Loras had other ideas.

With less than two minutes remaining before the break, Calvin Miller scored on a penalty kick for the Duhawks to tie the match at 1-1.  Loras wasn't satisfied as they quickly scored again 13 seconds later when Miller found the back of the net.  That put the score at 2-2 heading into intermission.

Nebraska Wesleyan had a chance at a penalty kick of their own in the second half and they took advantage of it.  Senior Will Weber scored on a penalty kick in the 59th minute to tie up the match at 2-2.

Later in the half it was another penalty kick opportunity for Loras as Kyler Olson scored in the 78th minute giving the Duhawks the lead.  They added to the lead with just under four minutes to play as Ike Burns scored his first goal of the season.  That made the final score 4-2.

This match was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday night, but was moved to Sunday due to weather delays that occurred during the NWU Homecoming football game on Saturday afternoon.
