CHICAGO, Ill. – Nebraska Wesleyan went 2-2 at the North Park Volleyball Tournament that was played Sept. 16-17 in Chicago, Ill. NWU went 1-1 on each day of the tournament, picking up wins over Knox College and North Park University and falling to UW-River Falls and Aurora University.
The Prairie Wolves are now 7-5 overall on the 2016 season.
On Friday, the Prairie Wolves opened play with a 3-0 loss to Wisconsin-River Falls. UW-River Falls won in scores of 26-24, 25-14, 25-14. NWU finished with 29 kills as a team, led by
Callie Meyer with seven.
Kennedy Hegert had 30 digs to lead the way and Taylor Crandal dished out 27 assists.
NWU bounced back after the loss and cruised to a 3-0 win over Knox College in scores of 25-15, 25-6, 25-21. The Prairie Wolves had 40 kills, hitting .314 as a team.
Malory Dahl led the way with 13 kills on 19 attempts to hit .684.
Kierra Harder added eight kills. Hegert led the team in digs once again with nine and Crandall handed out 12 assists with five kills and five digs.
Saturday morning the Prairie Wolves got the day started with a 3-0 loss to Aurora University. Aurora won 25-17, 25-23, 25-15 and ended up winning the North Park Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. Aurora had 56 kills in the match, compared to just 25 for NWU. Dahl had 11 kills to pace the Prairie Wolves. She had a double-double in the match, adding 16 digs. Hegert had 23 digs against the Spartans.
Facing the host school North Park in the final match, the Prairie Wolves came away with a 3-1 win in scores of 25-13, 15-25, 25-21, 25-19. In a very competitive match, NWU had 49 kills compared to 47 for the Vikings. Dahl had 15 kills to lead NWU while Harder chipped in nine. Hegert reached double digits with 14 digs and Crandall dished out 33 assists.
Malory Dahl was named to the North Park Invite All-Tournament team.
Nebraska Wesleyan opens Iowa Conference play on Tuesday night when they travel to Pella, Iowa to face Central College.
