LINCOLN, Neb. – Gustavus Adolphus College scored three second half goals to earn a 3-0 victory as they spoiled the 2016 season opener for the Nebraska Wesleyan University women's soccer team on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 1) at Abel Stadium.
 
The Gusties used a big second half to earn the shutout victory as all three goals came in the final 45 minutes of the match.
 
Neither team was able to get on the board in the first half, as both teams were getting adjusted on opening day.  In the second half, the Gusties broke the tie as they wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard.  Josie Mazzone scored the first goal of the match, less than three minutes into the second half.
 
In the final ten minutes, Gustavus Adolphus added a second goal with Hannah Sturtz finding the back of the net in the 81^st minute.  The match closed with an own goal in the final minute to make the final score 3-0.
 
GAC attempted just six shots in the match, scoring on three of those.  NWU had only five shots attempts, with all five attempts on goal.
 
NWU is just getting started with a busy opening weekend as they travel to Wichita, Kan., on Friday to take on Friends University.  They conclude the opening weekend with a match at Waldorf on Sunday.
