LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan pounded out 13 hits on their way to a 8-0 victory over Mount Marty College on Senior Day for the Prairie Wolves softball team in game one of a GPAC doubleheader. The Lancers came back to shutout NWU in game two with a 1-0 victory.

NWU defeated the Lancers in just five innings as they game ended due to the run rule as the day got off to a great start for the Prairie Wolves.

With the bases loaded,
Betsy Reimer hit a beautiful bunt single to drive in
Madi Francis with the first run of the game in the bottom of the 2
nd inning. NWU did leave the bases loaded in the 2
nd. The Prairie Wolves opened the 3
rd inning with four straight hits as
Kassie Knauss,
Rachel Kubik, Francis and
Maddy Ethen all singled. Francis and Ethen both drove in runs.Â
Danelle Snyder drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly.

Leading 4-0, NWU plated two more runs in the 4
th inning. Kubik and Francis both singled and scored on singles from Ethen and
Jordan Arndt. Nebraska Wesleyan closed out the game in the bottom of the 5
th inning.Â

Pinch hitter
Kennedy Greene led off the inning with a single. She moved to third on a double by
Nicole Vana. Knauss singled to drive in Greene and Vana advanced to third. She would score two pitches later on a wild pitch.

NWU finished with 13 hits as the first five batters in the lineup all had two hits. Batters 1-5 in the lineup went 10-16 at the plate and drove in four runs. Vana had the only extra base hit with a double.

Marisa Garver picked up the complete game shutout victory giving up just three hits and no walks with a strikeout.

Game two was nowhere close to the first game after the Prairie Wolves honored their seven seniors between games. That celebration didn't carry over and cooled the NWU bats as the Prairie Wolves managed only three hits in the game.

Twice Nebraska Wesleyan had a runner on third base, but they couldn't get the timely hit.

Meanwhile, Mount Marty took advantage of two NWU errors in the 5
th inning to score their only run. They reached base on an error to open the inning, then Jennifer Mitera was able to score on a double steal as NWU botched the defensive play with another error.

Claire Poppe was the hard luck loser on the mound allowing one unearned run in six innings of work. She allowed only three hits and struck out four in six innings.

NWU now prepares for the 2016 GPAC Tournament which begins on Wednesday morning.
