CRETE, Neb. – Doane pitchers limited Nebraska Wesleyan to just one run in 14 innings as the Tigers swept a pair of games over the Prairie Wolves in a GPAC softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Ledon Field. Doane won the first game 2-0, then took game two 5-1.

With the loss, the Prairie Wolves fall to 14-14 overall and 6-9 in GPAC play. That puts them in a tie for 8
th place in the league standings with College of Saint Mary, a team that NWU faces next on Friday afternoon in a makeup game. The top eight teams in the standings qualify for the GPAC Postseason Tournament.

Nebraska Wesleyan continues to struggle on offense as they have scored just two runs in the past 28 innings of play. The Prairie Wolves managed just five hits in the opening game. NWU's biggest offensive threat came in the top of the 5
th inning.Â
Betsy Reimer walked and
Danelle Snyder singled to put two runners one. A sacrifice put runners on second and third with two outs and
Rachel Kubik at the plate. Kubik worked a full count, then was called out on strikes on a pitch that got the outside corner to leave the runners stranded.

Doane got a solo home run in the third inning, then an RBI single in the fourth to account for their two runs. The Tigers had just three total hits, as NWU actually outhit Doane by two hits.Â

All five hits for the Prairie Wolves were singles.Â
Marisa Garver took the loss allowing two runs on three hits with a strikeout and no walks.

The Prairie Wolves took an early 1-0 lead in the second game as they scored in the first inning.Â
Rachel Kubik walked to lead off the game, then came around to score on a single by
Maddy Ethen.  That was the one and only time the Prairie Wolves would get on the scoreboard for the day.

Four runs in the bottom of the second were enough for Doane to earn the win. The Tigers got five singles in the inning to break the game open. Doane added one more run in the third inning and that ended the scoring for the day.

NWU also had five hits in the second game. All five hits were singles as the Prairie Wolves did not have an extra base hit on the day. Kubik,
Kassie Knauss,
Nicole Vana, Ethen and
Brianne Conover all had singles.

Claire Poppe took the loss allowing five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings.Â
LeighAnn Novotny pitched the final 3 2/3 innings and did not allow a run.
