LINCOLN, Neb. –
Danelle Snyder got the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 9
th inning to drive in
Nicole Vana as Nebraska Wesleyan upset 14
th-ranked Morningside 1-0 in game two of a GPAC softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at University Place Park. The Mustangs opened the doubleheader with a 6-0 victory.

NWU handed the Mustangs just their second GPAC loss of the season as No. 14 Morningside falls to 33-7 overall and 12-2 in league play to remain on top of the league. The Prairie Wolves improve to 14-12 and sit in seventh place in the GPAC at 6-7.

Claire Poppe of NWU and Rachel Henks from Morningside put on two impressive pitching performances. Poppe threw the complete game shutout victory allowing just five hits with four strikeouts in nine innings of work. Henks took the loss allowing only six hits with strikeouts.

With the game still scoreless in the second extra inning, Vana led off the bottom of the 9
th with a single. She advanced to second base when
Madi Francis fouled out to the catcher. The next batter, freshman
Danelle Snyder, came through with the game-winning hit.

Vana and
Rachel Kubik both had two hits in the game to lead Nebraska Wesleyan. Kubik had the only extra base hit with a double.

Game one was also very competitive through the first five innings. Morningside finally got on the board with a run in the top of the 5
th to lead 1-0 heading into the 6
th inning. The 6
th inning was one that NWU would like to forget as Morningside erupted for five runs on six hits.

The Prairie Wolves offense never got going in the first game as Aubrey Voboril pitched a complete game shutout for the Mustangs. She struck out five and walked only one.

Kubik and
Maddy Ethen both had doubles, with Vana adding a single for the Prairie Wolves three hits.
