Party in the Palace for Prairie Wolves

MITCHELL, S.D. -- Nebraska Wesleyan moved into 2nd place in the GPAC men's basketball standings as they went on the road and picked up a huge 107-97 upset victory over #13 Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at the World's Only Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.

With the victory, NWU improves to 16-6 overall and 11-5 in the GPAC to go past Dakota Wesleyan in the GPAC standings.  The Prairie Wolves 16 wins are the most since the 2000-01 season and the 11 league wins also are the most since the initial year in the GPAC for NWU.

NWU won at the Corn Palace for the first time since 2003 as they had lost seven straight in Mitchell.

The Prairie Wolves used hot shooting from 3-point land to get the upset victory,.  NWU went 19-33 from 3-point land and held DWU to just 10-35 from long range.

NWU trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half but closed the gap and led 49-45 at halftime.  The Tigers led 78-77 with just over eight minutes remaining the game, but the Prairie Wolves went on a 12-2 run to get up by nine points and that was too much for the Tigers to overcome.

Travis Giesselmann filled the stat sheet again and recorded his first career triple double. Giesselmann had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in the contest.

Five total players reached double figures for the Prairie Wolves.  Cooper Cook came off the bench to lead the team with 24 points and he made five 3-pointers.  Cook was just one point short of his career high.

Trey Bardsley scored 23 points and hit four 3-pointers while moving into 5th on the NWU all-time scoring charts.  Keithan Karn also hit four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points.  Max Cook had his second straight double figure scoring output as he added 10 points.

Jade Miller scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Tigers.

NWU will have its final two regular season home games this week as they host Hastings on Wednesday and Dordt College on Saturday.
