Wolves Fall Short in Upset Bid of Bulldogs

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan led 12th-ranked Concordia University heading into the 4th quarter but the Bulldogs outscored the Prairie Wolves 24-8 in in the final period to earn the 65-51 victory in GPAC women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Feb. 3) at Snyder Arena.

NWU was ahead 43-41 heading into the 4th quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 16-8 in the 3rd quarter.  The Prairie Wolves couldn't contain the Bulldogs in the final period as they scored 24 points in the final 10 minutes. 

The Prairie Wolves only scored four points in the first nine minutes of the 4th quarter as the Bulldogs pulled away.

Neither team shot the basketball with must effectiveness in the game, especially from long range.  12th-ranked Concordia was just 12-42 from 3-point range, while NWU was 4-18 from long distance.

Concordia, which had defeated the Prairie Wolves by a score of 92-37 in the first meeting, led 33-27 at halftime.

The Prairie Wolves  took came out firing in the 3rd period, making three 3-pointers in the quarter to get ahead.  Unfortunately it was not enough to secure the upset bid.

Courtney Cook led the way for the Prairie Wolves with 18 points, making 7-10 from the field before she fouled out late in the game.  Felicia TeKolste chipped in 12 points with three assists as the other NWU player in double figures.

Concordia had three players in double figures, led by Brenleigh Daum with 16 points.  Becky Mueller had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.  The Bulldogs dominated on the glass with a 49-34 advantage in rebounding.
