SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Nebraska Wesleyan received the No. 2 seed for the 2016 GPAC Postseason Men's Basketball Tournament when the pairings were announced Saturday night.
The Prairie Wolves will host the No. 7 seed Dordt College on Wednesday night at Snyder Arena. Tip-off for the game is set for 7 pm. The winner of the NWU-Dordt game will advance to the GPAC Semifinals and face the winner of #3 Dakota Wesleyan vs. #6 Concordia on Saturday (Feb. 27).
This marks the first time that Nebraska Wesleyan has ever hosted a GPAC Men's basketball tournament game and the first time any Prairie Wolves athletic team has hosted a GPAC Postseason game on campus.Â
NWU, picked to finish 7th in the GPAC preseason poll, will be making their fourth GPAC Postseason Tournament appearance since becoming eligible for the tournament five years ago. The Prairie Wolves are 0-3 in previous tournament games as they are aiming for the first postseason victory this season. They fell at Briar Cliff in 2012, at Hastings in 2014 and last season lost at Briar Cliff as the No. 5 seed.
Nebraska Wesleyan and Dordt split their regular season meetings with each team winning on their home court. The Defenders won 92-88 on Jan. 9 in Sioux Center, then NWU got a 92-87 win in Lincoln on Senior Day on Feb. 13.
The Prairie Wolves finished the 2015-16 regular season with a 20-6 overall record, winning their last seven games in a row. The 20 victories are the most for a NWU basketball team since the 1997-98 season.
The winner of the GPAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NAIA II National Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo. Should the regular season GPAC champion Briar Cliff win the GPAC Tournament, the tournament runner-up will receive the automatic bid.
