STORM LAKE, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan shut out Buena Vista University 3-0 in women's soccer action on Wednesday night (Oct. 5) to get their record back to .500 for the season with the second straight conference win.
With the win, NWU moves to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in Iowa Conference action, while BVU falls to 3-7 and remains winless in conference play at 0-3.
Nebraska Wesleyan scored two goals in the first half, added another in the second half and kept the Beavers out of the net as the Prairie Wolves dominated the match on both ends of the field.
Kaitlyn Sullivan got the scoring started for NWU with a goal in the 29
th minute. With less than four minutes remaining before halftime
Georgia Straka scored to give NWU the 2-0 advantage heading into the locker room at the half.
In the second half, the Prairie Wolves took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity to add another goal on the board.
Hallie Schimenti scored the penalty kick making the score 3-0.
Those three goals were more than enough to give the Prairie Wolves cushion the rest of the match. NWU had 19 total shots, compared to just four for Buena Vista.
Makenzie Hammond got the start in goal for NWU and posted a shutout with two saves.
Nebraska Wesleyan will go for three straight IIAC victories on Saturday when they travel to face Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
