Coe Gets Game-Winner in Double Overtime

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College scored a goal in double overtime to earn a 1-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan in Iowa Conference women's soccer action on Saturday (Oct. 8) at Lower Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

With the score tied 0-0, Jordan Holmes found the left side of the goal open from around five yards out just over 2:30 into the second overtime period for the game-winner.  It was the first goal of the season for Holmes to give the Kohawks he win.

Coe picks up their first IIAC win as they move to 8-5-1 overall and 1-2 in IIAC, while NWU falls to 6-7 and 2-2 in conference play.

It was a very competitive and even match throughout regulation as neither team could find the back of the net.  Nebraska Wesleyan attempted nine shots in the first 90 minutes while Coe had 13 with Madi Francis recording five saves.  After 90 minutes with neither team scoring, the first overtime period was more of the same forcing one final overtime period.

Nebraska Wesleyan sits in a three-way tie for third place in the IIAC standings after playing half of their conference schedule.  They travel to face Central College on Tuesday in Pella, Iowa.  The Dutch are 10-2-1 overall.
