LINCOLN, Neb. – Coe College made quick work of Nebraska Wesleyan on senior day as the Kohawks swept past the Prairie Wolves 3-0 on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 22) in Iowa Conference volleyball action at Snyder Arena.
Coe won in scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 to improve to 18-10 overall and 5-3 in IIAC play, while NWU drops their fourth straight match to fall to 12-11 and 4-3 in conference play. Both teams have already clinched a spot in the IIAC Postseason Tournament that will be held Nov. 3-4 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
It was a disappointing performance for the Prairie Wolves in their final home match of the year. NWU committed 13 hitting errors, 10 service errors and had nine reception errors.
NWU led early in all three sets but allowed Coe to rally back. In the first set, the Prairie Wolves were up 14-12, before Coe went on a 9-2 run to gain control and earn the set win. The second set saw NWU jump ahead 3-1 before the Kohawks reeled off 11 straight points to take a 12-3 lead and seal the win.
The Prairie Wolves got a big 8-3 advantage in the third set as they looked like they would force the match to extend. However, the Kohawks went on a 10-3 run to retake the lead and NWU never led again.
Kierra Harder led the way for NWU with 12 kills and a .346 hitting percentage.
Malory Dahl had nine kills in her final match at Snyder Arena.
Kennedy Hegert led the way with 16 digs in her last match at home.
NWU is back in action on Tuesday in the final IIAC match at Simpson College.
