Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 16 Luther Edges NWU 2-1 in Men's Soccer

LINCOLN, Neb. – 16th-ranked Luther College scored an early 2nd half goal and that proved to be the game-winner as the Norse defeated Nebraska Wesleyan, 2-1, in Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 16) at Abel Stadium.

The Norse picked up their 10th win of the season to improve to 10-3-2 overall and 4-2 in the IIAC, while NWU dropped their second match of the week to fall to 6-5-3 and 2-4 in conference action.

Luther got the scoring going midway through the first half when Benjamin Keller scored in the 28th minute to put the Norse up 1-0.

With time running short in the first half, the Prairie Wolves tied up the match.  Josh Thompson scored the key goal with just over four minutes remaining before halftime to make the score 1-1 heading into intermission.

Coming out of the halftime locker room, Luther scored again with Brunno Colon finding the open net to put the 16th-ranked Norse ahead.  That goal would prove to be the game-winner as Nebraska Wesleyan was unable to convert a scoring opportunity in the second half.

Luther finished the match with 16 shot attempts, five of them on goal.  NWU had nine total shots, also with five on goal.

The Prairie Wolves now enter the final week of the conference regular season needing to earn victories to get themselves into the postseason.  NWU is currently seventh in the IIAC standings with the top six teams qualifying for the tournament.

NWU will host Simpson College on Wednesday night, then travel to Wartburg College on Saturday.
