NWU Men Tie Record for 3-Pointers in 85-72 Win

FULTON, Mo. -- Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball stepped out of conference on Monday (Jan. 18) and picked up a 85-72 road win at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.

The Prairie Wolves tied the school record making 23 3-pointers in the game.  NWU hit 14 3-pointers in the first half as all but three of their made field goals were from long range.  For the game, Nebraska Wesleyan was 23-52 from 3-point range for 44.2 percent and made only eight two point field goals.  NWU did not even attempt a free throw line game, going 0-0 at the charity stripe.

NWU, which has now won 11 of the last 13 games, improves to 13-4 on the year and already equaled the win total from one year ago.

The Prairie Wolves led for the entire game and got up by as many as 20 points late in the first half.  The score was 48-30 at halftime with NWU going 14-26 from long range.

Three more times in the second half NWU got up by 20 points, but the Bluejays kept battling.  Westminster went on a 12-0 run as they held NWU without a point for three minutes to pull within eight points at 61-53 with 12:52 remaining.  Cooper Cook hit a 3-pointer to end the drought and put the Prairie Wolves back up by 11. 

Westminster would get back within nine points, but a 3-pointer from Trey Bardsley put the lead to 12 and it remained double figures the rest of the way.

Keithan Karn and Nick Stine both made six 3-pointers to lead the Prairie Wolves in scoring.  Karn had a team-high 20 points with six rebounds on the game.  Stine came off the bench to make 6-10 from 3-point range and finish with 18 points. He also had four assists.

Two other players scored in double figures for NWU as Trey Bardsley had 14 points, with four 3-pointers and four assists.  Travis Giesselmann had another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Westminster was led by Nick Carlos with 21 points and Romo Tabb scored 13.

Nebraska Wesleyan is now off until Saturday (Jan. 23) when travel to Sioux City, Iowa to face top ten ranked Briar Cliff University. The game will be a battle between the top two teams in the GPAC standings.  The Chargers won the first meeting over NWU in overtime.
