SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- 14th-ranked Dordt College handed Nebraska Wesleyan their fifth loss in conference play as the Defenders defeated the Prairie Wolves 3-0 in GPAC volleyball action on Saturday night. The Defenders won in scores of 25-13, 25-22, 25-21.
Dordt has now won 13 straight matches and is 5-0 in GPAC play with a 13-1 overall record. NWU falls to 4-9 on the season and sits at 0-5 in GPAC matches.
The Defenders set the tone early in the match with a 4-1 lead in set one. After NWU pulled to within one point, Dordt went on a four point run to go ahead 13-8 with two service aces. A six point run sealed it with Dordt going from up 17-11 to 23-11. NWU was limited to a negative hitting percentage in the opening set with six kills and eight errors.
The home team got up big in set two as well putting together a 22-13 advantage. NWU did not back down as they went on a 8-0 run to get back in it. A kill by Haley Moss ended the run and Dordt went on to win 25-22.
NWU took an early 8-4 lead in the third set before Dordt came back to tie the set at 9-9. The Prairie Wolves continued to battle the entire set as the match was tied, 16-16, 17-17, 19-19 and 20-20. Dordt got up 23-20 before an NWU block ended the run. Two kills from Moss gave Dordt the victory.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the match with 28 total kills and hit .042.
Malory Dahl led the team with 10 kills.
Callie Meyer had five block assists at the net.
Kelsey Bahe had a double-double of 11 assists and 11 digs.
Kennedy Hegert led the team with 16 digs.
Dordt pounded out 46 kills on the night with Haley Moss having a huge game with 16 kills and only one error for a .625 hitting percentage.
NWU steps out of GPAC play this week as they will travel to Texas for the Trinity University Invitational.
