Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goal Gives NWU 1-0 Win at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Brady Blazek scored the game-winning goal on a header with less than two minutes left in the match to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 1-0 win at Coe College on Tuesday night in men's soccer action at Clark Field.

NWU improves to 5-0 overall while Coe falls to 1-3-1 on the year.

The Prairie Wolves brought their full attack style again on Tuesday night attempting 22 total shots on the night.  NWU was just unable to find the open net until the minutes were ticking off the clock.  A total of 11 different players attempted shots for the Prairie Wolves, with Jake Kennedy attempting a team-high five.

With less than two minutes remaining, Blazek sent a header from five feet out that glanced off the goalkeepers hand and ended in the right corner of the goal.  The goal came on an assist from Jake Kennedy.

The NWU defense was just as effective as they limited the Cohawks to only six total shots.  Jack Nespor had one save and recorded the shutout in goal for the Prairie Wolves.

"I think the box score stats probably say it all. We created plenty and the simple truth is that their goalkeeper was amazing. Without doubt the best DIII keeper performance I've seen in my ten years at this level," Coach Tudor Flintham said. "Overall I'm proud of the guys. They worked through what was a frustrating evening in front of goal and just ground out the result. It's another boost to our confidence and now we just have one more huge test tomorrow"

Nebraska Wesleyan completes their stretch of five matches in eight days on Wednesday night as they host Simpson College at Abel Stadium.
