Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

NWU Soccer Remains Undefeated on the Season

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Nebraska Wesleyan kept its perfect season alive as the Prairie Wolves men's soccer team picked up two more victories over the weekend in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  NWU won a high scoring 5-4 match over St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday then won 2-0 over Cardinal Stritch on Sunday afternoon.  Nebraska Wesleyan is now 4-0 on the season.

Drew Miller had a huge game for the Prairie Wolves against St. Francis.  Miller had a hat trick with three goals in the match.  He opened the game with a pair of goals that were made within 20 seconds of each other.  His first goal came on an assist by Brady Blazek with the second one from Jake Kennedy.

USF answered the two goals and tied the match at 2-2 with a pair of scores right before intermission.

Once again, NWU scored two goals within a minute of each other in their high paced attack.  Kennedy got a goal at the 58:02 mark on an assist by Blazek, then Jordan Cahill scored at the 58:45 mark.  USF cut the lead in half with another goal in the 72nd minute.  Miller made his final goal at the 83:10 minute mark on another assist from Blazek.  St. Francis chipped in one goal in the final minute to make the score 5-4.

NWU had 28 total shots in the match, compared to just eight by St. Francis.

"There is a real confidence in the squad and a clear sense of identity," Coach Flintham said.  "Part of that identity is that our lads see the need to go make the win happen... They aren't passive in anything they do, and the truth is that not one of our opponents will say they want to play us again. For me that shows an ability and willingness to execute across all phases."

Jake Kennedy scored both goals in the win over Cardinal Stritch on Sunday.  His first goal of the day came with only 1:36 off the clock.  The 1-0 score would remain at intermission.

The Prairie Wolves extended their lead to two with Kennedy's second goal late in the second half.  He got the tap in goal on assists from Drew Miller and Brady Blazek.

Jack Nespor had five saves and got the shutout in goal for NWU.  The Wolves of Cardinal Stritch had 17 total shots in the match with the Prairie Wolves taking 10 shots.

"Stritch is an outstanding team... One which competes for their conference title ever single year," Flintham said.  "So to do what we did to them today gives us a real boost. But we're still hungry and have a point to prove. Two tough games for us coming up and I think on that back end of that we'll have a real sense of how close we are to being a championship contender this year".

NWU will travel to Coe College on Tuesday then host Simpson College on Wednesday night.
