Bats Go Quiet in 6-1 Loss to Bulldogs

FREMONT, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan managed just two hits for the game as the Prairie Wolves fell 6-1 to Concordia University at the 2015 GPAC Softball Tournament on Wednesday (Apr. 29) at Christensen Field in Fremont.  With the loss, the Prairie Wolves will now play an elimination game on Thursday against the host school Midland University.  First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.

Concordia went a perfect 2-0 on the first day of the GPAC softball tournament and moves to the championship game at 2 pm.  The winner of the Nebraska Wesleyan-Midland game will have to defeat the Bulldogs twice to move to Saturday's Championship Series.

NWU never got their offense on track in their second game of the day.  Madi Francis and Rachel Kubik both had singles, but those were the only two hits of the game.  The Prairie Wolves trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning.  With two outs in the 3rd, the Prairie Wolves put together a scoring threat.   Nicole Vana walked and stole second base.  Betsy Reimer also walked to bring up Kubik who drove in Vana with a single.

The only other threat the Prairie Wolves had was in the 4th inning.  Madison Ethen walked and was on second base when Nicole Belfiore hit a line drive to centerfield that was caught by the outfielder at her shoestrings.  NWU didn't get a hit the final four innings and had just one runner reach second base.

Marisa Garver took the loss on the mound giving up three earned runs and seven hits in three innings of work.  LeighAnn Novotny pitched the final four innings and gave up two runs.

Michaela Woodward pitched the 2-hitter for Concordia with four strikeouts and three walks.
