CONWAY, Ark. -- A total of 34 hits and 30 runs were more than enough for the Nebraska Wesleyan softball team as they swept past Hendrix College in a doubleheader to close out their spring trip in Arkansas. NWU won game one 10-1, then cruised to a 20-7 victory in the second game.
NWU has won six straight games and seven of their last eight to improve to 7-9 overall.
In game one, NWU scored 10 runs in the first three innings and went on to the 10-1 win in five innings due to the run rule. The Prairie Wolves plated two runs in the first and four each in the second and third inning for the win.
Brittany Gentry had a big day at the plate for the Prairie Wolves going 2-3 with a double and four RBI.Â
Madi Francis drove in two runs while
Nicole Vana hit a double and had an RBI.Â
Marisa Garver got the win to improve to 2-3 on the season. She allowed no earned runs and eight hits in the win.
NWU broke out the bats in game two as they pounded out 26 hits while scoring a season-high 20 runs. Eleven total players recorded hits in the game as the offense was spread up and down the lineup. The Prairie Wolves led 4-2 after three innings then plated six runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Rachel Kubik had a huge day for the Prairie Wolves going 4-5 with a double and five RBI. Nine different players had multiple hits for NWU with
Nicole Vana,
Brittany Gentry and
Betsy Reimer each collecting three hits.Â
Hunter Bailey and
Jordan Arndt each both drove in three runs.
Claire Poppe pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief to pick up the win on the mound.
NWU returns to Lincoln from their spring break trip to host Presentation College on Monday at 5 pm.
