CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- Nebraska Wesleyan extended their winning streak to four games as the Prairie Wolves softball team continued to perform well on their spring trip to Arkansas with a pair of wins at University of Ozarks. NWU won game one 10-2, then edged Ozarks 3-2 in eight innings in game two.
NWU has now improved to 5-9 overall as they have won five of the last six games.
The Prairie Wolves pounded out 12 hits in the opening game as they won in six innings due to the run rule. They led 5-0 after three innings and scored four runs in the top of the 6th to end the game early.
Claire Poppe allowed just five hits and two runs, both unearned, on the mound to get her first win of the year.
Offensively,
Madi Francis went 3-4 at the plate with four RBI to lead the NWU attack. She also stole two bases in the win.Â
Nicole Vana also went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI.Â
Rachel Kubik was a perfect 2-2 with a walk and RBI.
In game two,
Madi Francis drove in the winning run in the top of the 8th with a squeeze bunt to score
Brittni Eitzmann. In the bottom of the inning, NWU got the lead runner out at third base on a fielder's choice to open the inning which ruined the Ozarks chances.
NWU jumped ahead in the game with a run in the top of the 2nd inning.Â
Hunter Bailey was hit by a pitch then stole two bases and scored on a ground out by
Betsy Reimer. The University of Ozarks rallied back and took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
NWU tied the game in the 5th inning as
Nicole Belfiore drove in Bailey on a sacrifice fly.
Megan Cottier pitched all eight innings to get the victory. She allowed five hits and two runs while striking out five to improve to 2-5.
Rachel Kubik had two of the Prairie Wolves five hits as the lone NWU player with multiple hits.
Nebraska Wesleyan concludes their spring trip on Thursday with a doubleheader at Hendrix College.
