Bellevue Takes Two From NWU in Softball Opener

Bellevue, Neb. -- The start to the 2015 softball season was delayed an extra day but the Prairie Wolves finally opened the year with a doubleheader at Bellevue University on Wednesday (Mar. 11).  The Bruins took both games from the Prairie Wolves winning game one 2-1 and game two 9-1.

Game one was a pitching dual between Megan Cottier of NWU and Kelli Fischer from Bellevue.  NWU got the first run of the game in the top of the 4th inning as the Prairie Wolves took advantage of two straight errors.  A fielder's choice by Madison Ethen allowed Brittany Gentry to score.

That would be the only run of the game for the Prairie Wolves as they managed just two hits.

Bellevue tied the game with a run in the bottom of the 6th inning to make the score 1-1 headed to the 7th.  In the bottom of the 7th, Michaela Miller led off with a single.  She moved to second on a sacrifice, went to third and scored on a game-winning hit from Shelby Kindelin.

Kelli Fisher allowed just two hits and struck out 10 NWU batters to get the victory.

The second game started out well for the Prairie Wolves as they scored a run in the top of the 1st.  NWU had three hits in the first inning with Madi Francis driving in Brittany Gentry.

Things did not go so well for Nebraska Wesleyan the rest of the way as Bellevue scored at least one run in every inning and the game ended in the 5th inning due to the run rule.

Nebraska Wesleyan managed just three hits in game two and five total hits on the day.  Marisa Garver took the loss on the mound allowing six runs, only one earned in 2 2/3 innings.
