LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan University lost a legend when former baseball coach Dr. Ron Bachman passed away at the age of 80 on Feb. 18, 2015.

Bachman had the most wins in Nebraska Wesleyan baseball history recording 417 victories over his career. He led the NWU baseball program for 26 seasons from 1970-95 guiding the Plainsmen to 14 Nebraska-Iowa Conference titles. His teams finished as runner-up seven times and no worse than third in the NIAC. He also guided three teams to the NCAA playoffs in 1974, 1976 and 1982.

Bachman was a 1960 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan where he lettered in baseball, football and basketball. He returned to his alma mater in the fall of 1969 after teaching and coaching on the high school and collegiate level in Nebraska, Illinois and Colorado.  Bachman was the NWU head wrestling coach from 1969-82, leading the team to three NIAC titles. He was a professor of physical education at Nebraska Wesleyan from 1969-1997.

In 1982, Bachman was inducted into the Nebraska Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame. His 1974 baseball team was also later inducted into the NWU Hall of Fame.Â
