Klingsporn Hits Game-Winner at Buzzer

SEWARD, Neb. -- Cole Klingsporn stepped back behind the 3-point line in the corner and nailed the game-winning shot at the buzzer to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 89-88 victory over Concordia University in GPAC men's basketball action on Wednesday night (Dec. 2) at the Walz Complex in Seward.

NWU improves to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in GPAC play with the last second victory.  Concordia falls to 6-2 and 2-2 in GPAC.

Things didn't look good for the Prairie Wolves late as they trailed the majority of the second half.  With 1:11 to play, Concordia attempted a free throw and missed the shot but the Bulldogs got the rebound.  Leading scorer Jamie Pearson drove the lane and made a layup to make the score 85-80 Concordia with under one minute remaining.

NWU came down and had Travis Giesselmann drive the lane who found a wide open Cooper Cook in the corner.  Cook drilled his sixth 3-pointer of the game to make the score 85-83 with 47 seconds left.  Concordia held the ball and waited for the last shot with the shot clock running down.  Pearson missed a long jump shot, but the Bulldogs got the offensive rebound.  NWU fouled Pearson who made two free throws to make the score 87-83 with 17.4 remaining.

Trailing by four points, NWU found their money man Trey Bardsley who hit a 3-pointer at the top of the key to cut the lead down to one point with 11.5 seconds.  NWU immediately fouled Eli Ziegler who hit 1-2 free throws giving NWU a chance.

The Prairie Wolves snagged the rebound and hurried down the court where the ball was passed out to Klingsporn for the game-winner.  It was just the second made 3-pointer of the year for Klingsporn.

NWU had three players score over 20 points in the victory as they made 14 3-pointers.  Trey Bardsley led the way with 26 points.  He was 4-6 on 3-pointers, but also contributed big with his eight assists.  Travis Giesselmann had his fifth double-double of the year with 23 points and 12 rebounds.  Cooper Cook came off the bench for 20 points, making 6-11 on 3-pointers.

Pearson had a game-high 36 points to lead Concordia.
