Five in a Row for Prairie Wolves Basketball

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Nebraska Wesleyan extended their winning streak to five games as the Prairie Wolves went on the road and defeated Morningside College 102-94 on Saturday night in GPAC men's basketball action at Allee Gym in Sioux City.

The Prairie Wolves now sit in second place in the GPAC standings with a 3-1 conference record and a 7-2 overall record.  The win in Sioux City was the first for the Prairie Wolves since Morningside joined the GPAC in 2003.

NWU shot a season-high 56.5 percent from the field and knocked down 15 3-pointers as the Prairie Wolves led the entire second half.  NWU took over the lead with 5:30 to play in the first half and never trailed again.

The contest got close late in the game as Morningside trimmed a 14-point deficit down to five points with 1:38 to play as Brady Van Ginkel made a fastbreak layup to make the score 95-90.

On NWU's next possession, Travis Giesselmann found Nick Stine beyond the arc and Stine delivered a big 3-pointer to get the lead back up to eight points.  Morningside responded with a basket with under 30 seconds left to cut the lead to six points but that was as close as they would get.  Max Cook knocked down two free throws and Giesselmann slammed home the victory with a dunk.

Five different players hit 3-pointers for the Prairie Wolves, with Trey Bardsley, Keithan Karn and Cooper Cook each making four 3-pointers.  As a team, NWU was 15-34 from 3-point range.

The Prairie Wolves eclipsed the 100-point mark for the seventh time this season.  NWU was great shooting the basketball hitting 39-69 from the floor.  They had 26 assists on the 39 made baskets with only 13 turnovers.

Morningside, which fell to 4-7 and 2-3 in GPAC, shot 55.0 percent from the floor.  Four players scored in double figures led by Brody Van Ginkel with 26 points.

Trey Bardsley paced the Prairie Wolves with 30 points. He was 13-23 from the field and also dished out seven assists with three steals.  Keithan Karn had 20 points on 4-7 from 3-point range.  Cooper Cook came off the bench for 16 points with 4-7 shooting from beyond the arc.  Travis Giesselmann had a team-high eight assists and was the fourth player in double figures with 14 points.
