Broncos Take Down NWU 49-13 in Season Finale

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Hastings College scored 42 unanswered points to spoil the 2015 season finale for the Nebraska Wesleyan football team as the Broncos defeated the Prairie Wolves 49-13 to close out the season on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 14) at Abel Stadium.

The Prairie Wolves finish the year with a 4-6 overall record, 3-6 in GPAC play.  Hastings ends the year at .500 with 5-5 overall.

NWU marched down the field on the opening drive and capped it with a 7-yard TD run by Joel Wiedel.

From there, the Broncos scored 49 straight points over the next four quarters in the last Great Plains Athletic Conference game ever for the Prairie Wolves.

Hastings led 21-7 at halftime then tacked on 21 points in the third quarter  They opened the fourth quarter with a TD for their final score.

NWU was able to score one final touchdown as Wiedel scored on a 1-yard plunge.

Hastings finished the game with 519 total yards of offense, averaging 8.1 yards per play.  The Broncos had 329 yards on the ground and 190 through the air.

NWU had 257 yards of total offense, with 197 on the ground.

Joel Wiedel led the way with 82 rushing yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns.  Shaka Taylor ran for 67 yards on 14 carries.  Jake Kittle came in to replace injured Tyler Smith at quarterback and ran for 41 yards on nine carries.

The Prairie Wolves completed just 9-22 passes for 60 yards with three interceptions.

Jacob VanLiew led the NWU defense with 11 total tackles and 2.5 tackles-for-loss.
