Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Red Raiders Shutout Prairie Wolves 2-0

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team was held without a goal for the second straight match as the Prairie Wolves dropped a 2-0 decision to Northwestern College on Saturday night at Abel Stadium.

With the loss, the Prairie Wolves have lost four straight to fall to 6-4 overall and are still looking for their initial GPAC win of the season.  Northwestern College, which was receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll, improves to 8-3 on the year and a perfect 3-0 in conference play.

"It's a tough stretch for us right now," Coach Flintham said. "But you have to remind yourself that you've been in two games against the favorites for the conference title."

Neither squad was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half as the Prairie Wolves and Red Raiders were scoreless at intermission.

Early in the second half, Northwestern finally lit up the scoreboard as Landon Sibole sent a shot to the upper corner of the goal to put the Red Raiders ahead 1-0.

NWU had their chances to tie the match, but couldn't string together any solid possessions.  Northwestern put the match out of reach with a second goal in the 80th minute as Isaac Wong took the assist from Daniel Zapata right in front of the goal and he connected.

"It's bittersweet because we miss out on the points we need, but feel like we could have won both games had we been more clinical," he said. "This team has a lot of wins in them yet. We'll fight for home playoff games and hope for a rematch against some of those we've just played."

Nebraska Wesleyan will have one week until they are back on the pitch and try to regain their momentum with a match at Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D.
