YANKTON, S.D. -- The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team picked up their first conference victory of the season in a big way on Saturday as they traveled to Mount Marty College and blew past the Lancers 7-1.
NWU snapped their four-match losing streak and improves to 7-4 overall and 1-3 in GPAC play. The Lancers remain winless on the year at 0-11 overall.
Will Weber scored two goals to open the match for the Prairie Wolves in the first 15 minutes to set the tone for the day. Weber's first goal came at the 12:53 mark, then he followed up with another goal at 15:12.
Brady Blazek got into the action before intermission, the first of his three goals on the day in his hat trick performance. NWU led 3-0 at halftime, but they were far from over in the scoring column.
Blazek opened the second half the same way the first half ended as he got his second goal of the day on an assist from
Wesley Smith.Â
Logan Johnson found the open net in the 54th minute to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 5-0. NWU took advantage of an own goal to take a 6-0 lead then Blazek got his final goal in the 71st minute.
Mount Marty did score one goal late in the match to make the final score 7-1.
NWU attempted 30 total shots, with 15 shots on goal on the afternoon. The Lancers had 13 shot attempts.
The Prairie Wolves look to use momentum gained from the match to reel off additional GPAC wins starting on Wednesday at Concordia University.
