LINCOLN, Neb. -- In a battle between teams that were tied for second place in the GPAC women's soccer standings, Morningside College prevailed with a 3-2 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday night (Oct. 17) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.
NWU had their five match winning streak snapped and falls to 8-5 overall, 5-2 in GPAC play. Morningside, who is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25, improves to 10-3-1, 6-1 in GPAC.
Things looked good early for the Prairie Wolves as
Katelin Blosser scored two first half goals as NWU led 2-1 at halftime.
Blosser got on the board early just five minutes into the match to put the Prairie Wolves up 1-0. Morningside responded in the 14th minute as Amy Samuelson scored off a corner kick by Makenzi Miller to tie it at 1-1.
Later in the first half, Blosser scored her 10th goal of the year as she converted a cross in the 22nd minute to go ahead 2-1. That would be the score at intermission.
Morningside tied the match in the second half as Ellie Freebern scored to make it 2-2. Later in the half, Amy Grause scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Mustangs as they earned the 3-2 victory.
NWU will be back at home on Wednesday as they face the GPAC leader, Hastings College at 6 pm in Abel Stadium.
