LINCOLN, Neb. -- Morningside College scored the game-winning goal less than two minutes into the second overtime period as they defeated Nebraska Wesleyan, 1-0, in GPAC men's soccer action on Saturday night (Oct. 17) at Abel Stadium.
Jesse Rodriguez took a pass from Joao Soares in front of the goal and found the open net for the lone goal of the match and the game-winner.
With the loss, NWU drops to 8-5 overall and 2-4 in GPAC play, while the Mustangs move to 8-4-1, 3-2-1 in conference play.
The two teams couldn't find the goal and missed several good scoring opportunities throughout the match. NWU goalkeeper
Jack Nespor recorded four key saves and Morningside had a pair of goalkeepers get four saves.
Morningside outshot the Prairie Wolves 17-13, and had the one shot that mattered when Rodriguez connected in the second overtime period.
It won't get much easier for Nebraska Wesleyan as they face nationally-ranked and GPAC leader Hastings College on Wednesday night at Abel Stadium.
