Prairie Wolves Battle Broncos in 3-2 Loss

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan held the lead at halftime but three straight goals by 21st-ranked Hastings College in the second half gave the Broncos a 3-2 victory over the Prairie Wolves in GPAC men's soccer action late Wednesday night (Oct. 21) at Abel Stadium.

The Prairie Wolves got on the board in the first 10 minutes of the match as Brady Blazek battled for the ball after a corner kick and saw the opportunity with a open net.  Blazek didn't miss as he put NWU up 1-0 with the goal from right in front of the net.

That 1-0 lead would hold up into intermission as the Prairie Wolves looked for their first victory over Hastings since 1999.

The Broncos proved why they are the top team in the GPAC once again this season as they tied the match early in the second half.  Daniel Whitehall converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute to make the score 1-1.

Hastings continued to put pressure on the Prairie Wolves and finally made NWU break in the 72nd minute.  Felix Proessl scored two goals within 30 seconds of each other to give the Broncos a 3-1 lead.

NWU did not fold and looked to mount a late comeback.  With less than 10 minutes remaining, Chris Elbracht headed the ball into the goal off a throw in from Jake Kennedy to make it 3-2.  The Prairie Wolves had a few opportunities late, but couldn't convert.

Hastings had 22 total shots in the match, compared to nine for NWU.

The Broncos improve to 10-3-2 overall and 7-0 in GPAC, while NWU falls to 8-6 and 2-5 in conference play.
