Warriors Hand Prairie Wolves First Loss of Season

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan's undefeated season came to an end on Wednesday (Sept. 24) as 10th-ranked Midland University came into Snyder Arena and defeated the 21st-ranked Prairie Wolves 3-0 in GPAC volleyball action.

Midland took the match in straight sets with scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 to end NWU's unbeaten streak at 10 matches.  The Warriors remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0 and 13-3 overall, while NWU falls to 10-1, 2-1 in GPAC.

The Warriors and Prairie Wolves were tied 20-20 in set one but a kill by Midland and an error from NWU made the score 22-20 and the Prairie Wolves couldn't recover.  A pair of service sealed the win for the Warriors at 25-21.

NWU came out on fire in the second set and fired up the enthused Prairie Wolves crowd in an energetic Snyder Arena.  Nebraska Wesleyan used three straight errors from Midland to build up a 10-3 lead.  They maintained a seven point lead up until 16-9 before Midland made their run.  The Warriors proved why they were a top ten team as they overtook the lead and got the win with an error by the Prairie Wolves.

NWU and Midland were tied at 13-13 until Midland finally pulled away in the final set of the match.  The Warriors got a kill to end the set victorious at 25-19.

Midland pounded out 46 kills with a hitting percentage of .260.  They were led by Krystina Koepke with 14 kills, while KC Heimann added 12.

NWU had 30 kills with just a .118 hitting percentage.  Malory Dahl had 10 kills to lead the Prairie Wolves.
