NWU Defeats DWU in GPAC Volleyball Opening Match

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan University opened the Great Plains Athletic Conference portion of their schedule by defeating Dakota Wesleyan, 3-1, in the volleyball home opener for the Prairie Wolves on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13) at Snyder Arena.

NWU won in scores of 25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 25-9 as they remain unbeaten on the year with a 9-0 overall record and a 1-0 mark in GPAC.  DWU falls to 4-6 overall.

The Prairie Wolves took care of business in routine fashion in the first two sets as NWU hit .231 in set one then hit .381 in the second set.  In the second set, Nebraska Wesleyan had four consecutive service errors to start the match as they put DWU away early. 

Dakota Wesleyan did not let the match end in a sweep as the Tigers went on a 8-3 run to take a 23-18 lead in the third set.  NWU battled back to make the score 24-23, but a ball handling error gave the Tigers the set victory.

Nebraska Wesleyan left no doubt in the fourth set, jumping ahead 10-3 and never looking back.  The Prairie Wolves had 15 kills with no errors in the fourth set for a team hitting percentage of .455.

Katelyn Walsh led the Prairie Wolves with 16 kills as three NWU players reached double figures in kills.  Alyssa Stanek had 11 kills with a swing percentage of .500, while Malory Dahl added 10 kills.   Alexa Rosenau had a double-double of 36 assists and 12 digs, while Mackenzie Ashton led the team with 23 digs.

Lauren Tadlock led Dakota Wesleyan with 11 kills.

NWU will next be in action on Tuesday (Sept. 16) with a match at Hastings College.
