Men's Basketball Earns No. 5 Seed in GPAC Postseason Tournament

The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's basketball team received the No. 5 seed in the 2014 Great Plains Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament.  The tournament bracket was released Saturday night.

The fifth-seeded Prairie Wolves will face the No. 4 seed Hastings College in the quarterfinals on Wednesday (Feb. 26) in Hastings, Neb.  TIp-off between the Prairie Wolves and Broncos will be at 8 pm at Lynn Farrell Arena.

An automatic bid to the NAIA II National Tournament is on the line with the winner of the GPAC Tournament receiving an automatic trip to Branson, Mo.  Dordt College, the 2014 GPAC Regular season champion, is the No. 1 seed and already secured a spot at the NAIA II National Tournament.  If Dordt wins the GPAC Tournament, the tournament runner-up receives the second automatic bid.

The NWU/Hastings winner will face the winner of No. 1 seed Dordt College vs. No. 8 seed Northwestern College on Saturday (Mar. 1) in the GPAC Tournament semifinals.  The GPAC Championship game will be played on March 4.

Nebraska Wesleyan and Hastings have played twice this season with the teams splitting the season series.  Hastings won 96-93 in overtime on Jan. 8 in Lincoln, then NWU traveled to Hastings two weeks ago and defeated the Broncos 75-70.

This is the second appearance in the GPAC Postseason Tournament for the Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team.  NWU made their first appearance in the 2011-12 season as the No. 6 seed losing at No. 3 seed Briar Cliff in the quarterfinals.
