Men Give 2nd-Ranked Warriors Test in 82-70 Loss

Fremont, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan trailed 2nd-ranked Midland University by just two points at halftime and hung around most of the contest but in the end the Warriors were too much for the Prairie Wolves in a 82-70 victory in GPAC men's basketball action.

Midland remains undefeated in GPAC play at 5-0 and improves to 11-1 overall, while NWU falls to 2-4, 0-2 GPAC.

The Warriors led 39-37 at the break and slowly climbed out to a 12-point lead with just under 10 minutes to play at 61-49.  NWU did not back down and quickly cut that lead in half.  A technical foul by Midland put the Prairie Wolves at the line where they hit 4-4 at the charity stripe then Jake Miller converted a layup to make the lead 61-55 just 30 seconds after being down 12.

NWU continued to cut into the Warrior lead as a Miller layup with 5:47 remaining made the score 66-64 Midland.  The Warriors scored seven unanswered points to go up by nine and back-to-back 3-pointers by Galen Gullie were the dagger for Midland.

Gullie led all scorers with 27 points, hitting 5-12 from 3-point range.  Leading scorer Alex Starkel had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds as they only other Midland player in double figures.

Nebraska Wesleyan was held 30 points under their season scoring average and scored the fewest points in a game so far this season. The Prairie Wolves shot 39.1 percent from the field and went 9-32 from 3-point range after hitting 23 the last time out.   NWU was outrebounded by eight and outscored by nine points at the free throw line.

Trey Bardsley led the Prairie Wolves with 23 points as he was 5-11 from 3-point range.  Travis Giesselmann scored 14 points and had a team-high seven rebounds for NWU.
