LINCOLN, Neb. -- No. 1 ranked Morningside proved why they are the top ranked team in the country as the Mustangs remained undefeated with a 77-55 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in GPAC women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Snyder Arena.
NWU (1-8, 0-5 GPAC) remains winless all-time against the Mustangs but the Prairie Wolves did not back down from the challenge on Saturday. Nebraska Wesleyan stayed within two possessions most of the first half and a
Courtney Cook 3-pointer in the final seconds of the half made the score 37-29 at halftime.
Morningside got hot from the outside in the second half knocking down 6-14 from 3-point range. Two free throws by
Felicia TeKolste made the score 42-34 early in the second half, but from there the Mustangs went on a 22-5 run to get the lead up to 25 points and never look back.
NWU was once again hurt by 24 turnovers and shot just 36.7 percent from the floor. The Prairie Wolves did hit 9-19 from 3-point range for 47.4 percent.
Felicia TeKolste led three NWU players in double figures with 19 points. She was 3-4 from 3-point range.Â
Bridget Bucher recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds while
Courtney Cook scored 12 points.
Allison Backman came off the bench to score 17 points to lead Morningside. The Mustangs got 39 points off the bench.
