LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will host Concordia University this Saturday (Oct. 11) in the 2014 Homecoming Football game at Abel Stadium.
Nebraska Wesleyan will look to get back on the winning track this week as the Prairie Wolves enter the game with a 1-4 overall record and a 1-3 GPAC record. Concordia brings a 3-2 overall, 2-1 GPAC record into Saturday's action.
The Prairie Wolves are coming off a 55-29 loss at Doane College in the 100th game between the old rivals. Despite a record-setting passing performance, the Prairie Wolves were outscored 28-6 in the second half as the Tigers went ahead by two games in the all-time series.
Concordia has had a back and forth season in the first five games alternating between wins and losses. The Bulldogs are looking to defeat the Prairie Wolves for the second consecutive season, which would be the first time since 2001-02 that Concordia has defeated NWU twice in a row. Quarterback Von Thomas is the all-time leader in career total offense at Concordia and will provide another challenge to the Prairie Wolves defense.
NWU will counter the Concordia offense with the GPAC Offensive Player of the Week
Connor Zumpfe who tied a NWU school record with four touchdown receptions last week. Zumpfe had 209 yards receiving, the third highest total in NWU history.
At halftime of the homecoming game, a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place to dedicate the new Gardner Foundation Strength Complex. Following the dedication, the newest class of NWU Athletic Hall of Fame members will be introduced.
