LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska Wesleyan dropped below .500 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference for the first time all season as the Prairie Wolves dropped a disappointing 1-0 decision to Midland University in women's soccer action on Wednesday night (Oct. 29) at Abel Stadium.
Midland got a goal from Regan Jones in the 33rd minute of the first half and that would be the only goal of the match for either team. The Warriors improved to 12-4-1 overall and 5-3-1 in GPAC while the Prairie Wolves drop to 7-6-3, 3-4-2 in GPAC.
NWU has now lost or tied five straight conference matches to fall to seventh in the league standings with one match remaining.
The only goal of the match came as a result of some misfortune by the Prairie Wolves. Midland's Cassie Cattabiani sent a nice pass downfield towards Jones who was battling two NWU players. Miscommunication between the Prairie Wolves goalie and defender resulted in neither playing touching the ball and leaving a wide open net for Jones to score.
Midland also had a penalty kick opportunity later in the first half, but goalkeeper
Madi Francis made the save to prevent the goal. The Warriors had nine total shots in the match, compared to seven for NWU.
Nebraska Wesleyan looks to close out the 2014 season on a positive note this Saturday when they face Dordt College on Senior Day.
