Seward, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan completed its season sweep of Concordia University on Tuesday night (Oct. 21) as the Prairie Wolves defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1, in GPAC volleyball action in Seward.
NWU, which moved to No. 15 in this week's AVCA/DIII Top 25, also defeated Concordia 3-1 earlier this season in Lincoln. The victory also moves the Prairie Wolves past the Bulldogs in the GPAC standings as NWU now sits in fourth place in the league. Nebraska Wesleyan is now 19-5 overall and 7-5 in GPAC, while Concordia is 15-9, 6-5 GPAC.
The Prairie Wolves took the first two sets of the match winning 25-19, 25-22 and looked poised to sweep past the Bulldogs. Concordia responded and easily won the third set 25-18 forcing a fourth set.
Both teams had dominant hitting performances in the fourth set with NWU recording 18 kills and a .317 hitting percentage, while Concordia had 17 kills hitting .302. In the end, Nebraska Wesleyan came out on top with a 27-25 win in the fourth set to take the match.
Three different players reached double digits in kills for the Prairie Wolves.
Katelyn Walsh and
Malory Dahl each had 11 kills, while
Alyssa Stanek had 10 kills.
Alexa Rosenau dished out 24 assists with nine kills, six digs and four blocks and
Mackenzie Ashton had a team-high 15 digs.
Concordia was led by Claire White who had 14 kills and 12 digs.
NWU will have two more matches this week as they have a pair of home matches. The Prairie Wolves host Northwestern College on Friday night then take on Mount Marty on Saturday afternoon.
