Box Score Nebraska Wesleyan rallied back from being down two sets to win the next three sets and an emphatic kill from
Katelyn Walsh sealed the 3-2 victory for the Prairie Wolves over Briar Cliff in GPAC volleyball action on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 28) in Snyder Arena.
NWU dropped the first two sets, 21-25 and 6-25 then rallied to win 25-23, 25-23, 16-14.
Briar Cliff (11-7, 2-4 GPAC) looked as if they would cruise to the win. After winning the first set, the Chargers dominated the Prairie Wolves in set two. NWU had 11 attack errors for a -.222 hit percentage in the second set, while BCU hit .321.
Set three didn't look good for the Prairie Wolves as well with the Chargers jumping ahead 14-8. Instead of folding over and allowing Briar Cliff to take the match, NWU rallied to tie the score at 18-18 before taking a 23-20 lead. A kill by
Malory Dahl sealed the win.
The fourth set was back and forth with neither team leading by more than three points at any point in the set. At 23-23, the Prairie Wolves posted back-to-back blocks by
Bridget Bucher to earn the win.
Briar Cliff jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the deciding fifth set. NWU slowly chipped away and finally tied the set at 13-13 with a kill by Bucher. Briar Cliff recorded a kill to take the lead. Dahl answered with a kill to tie it back up, then an ace by
Kennedy Hegert put the Prairie Wolves ahead.
Katelyn Walsh pounded out the game-winner to complete the comeback.
Bucher led the Prairie Wolves with 13 kills and a .385 hit percentage. Dahl had 12 kills,
Alyssa Stanek had 11 with six blocks and Walsh added 10.
Mackenzie Hite had 27 digs and
Alexa Rosenau handed out 26 assists.
