Box Score Nebraska Wesleyan's hot start to the 2013 volleyball season continued as they entered Great Plains Athletic Conference play as the Prairie Wolves picked up a key 3-1 victory on the road at Morningside College on Wednesday night (Sept. 11) in Sioux City, Iowa. NWU won in scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-15, 30-28.
The win improves NWU's record to 9-0 overall and 1-0 in GPAC play, while Morningside falls to 7-3, 0-1 GPAC.
NWU won set one rather handily, building up a 19-10 lead then holding on for the seven point set win. The Prairie Wolves led 22-20 in set two, but the Mustangs scored five of the next six points for the win. In set three, NWU got ahead 19-10 once again and cruised to the win.
The fourth set was by far the most competitive with each team having a chance at set point. With NWU up 24-22, Morningside picked up two kills and an ace to take over the lead 25-24. A
Malory Dahl kill kept the match alive for NWU at 25-25. NWU then led 28-27, but had an attack error to tie the match once again. Finally, Alysaa Stanek and
Katelyn Walsh recorded back-to-back kills to win the match for the Prairie Wolves.
NWU had 61 kills in the match, led by Dahl with 15. Stanek had 13 kills with five block assists, while Walsh added 10 kills.
Alexa Rosenau dished out 30 assists,
Alex Springman had 21, while
Mackenzie Hite and
Mackenzie Ashton each had 17 digs.
Morningside was led by Gabi French with 17 kills.
Nebraska Wesleyan now will await their home opener on Sept. 17 when they host Hastings College.
