A pair of nationally-ranked teams are set to do battle this Saturday (Oct. 12) in the NAIA Football Game-of-the-Week as #22 Nebraska Wesleyan University travels to Seward, Neb., to face #15 Concordia University in a key Great Plains Athletic Conference football matchup. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Bulldogs is set for 1 pm at Bulldog Stadium.
NWU (3-2, 3-1 GPAC) is aiming to hand Concordia (5-0, 3-0 GPAC) their first loss of the season as the Bulldogs are one of five remaining undefeated teams in the entire NAIA. The Prairie Wolves have upset two straight nationally-ranked opponents downing then #17 Northwestern two weeks ago, and beating #13 Doane, 20-19, last Saturday night.
This marks the fifth time in the first six weeks that NWU has played a team ranked in the NAIA Top 25. Concordia, who is in the rankings for the first time since 2002, has not played a team with a winning record as their five opponents have a combined 6-20 record. Saturday is also homecoming on the Concordia University campus.
Both team's have solid defenses as the Bulldogs lead the NAIA in scoring and total defense, posting two straight shutouts. Nebraska Wesleyan has only allowed two offensive touchdowns in the past three weeks, and has not given up more than seven points to Concordia in any of the last three games against the Bulldogs.
