Northwestern College remained undefeated in Great Plains Athletic Conference play but it wasn't easy as Nebraska Wesleyan hung tough with the 5th-ranked Red Raiders in a 3-0 match on Friday night (Oct. 25) in Orange City, Iowa.
The Red Raiders are now 28-1 overall and 12-0 in GPAC play, while NWU falls to 18-7, 8-5 GPAC. Northwestern took down the Prairie Wolves in scores of 29-27, 25-20, 25-18.
NWU led by as many as four points in the first set and had a set point, but couldn't close out the win. Two kills by the Red Raiders after a Prairie Wolves service error gave the Red Raiders the exciting two point win in set one.
The Prairie Wolves got ahead 6-1 in the second set, but after a Red Raider timeout Northwestern responded and showed why they are one of the top teams in the NAIA. Northwestern went on a 15-5 run to build up a 16-11 lead and they didn't look back.
Northwestern took an early lead in the deciding third set and took the win out of the Prairie Wolves sails as they won 25-18.
Malory Dahl had nine kills to lead the Prairie Wolves with
Alyssa Stanek adding seven kills and six blocks.
Karlie Schut had 20 kills to pace the Red Raiders.
