With less than three minutes remaining,
Alex Thorson scored the game-winning goal lifting Nebraska Wesleyan to a 2-1 victory in men's soccer at Briar Cliff on Saturday (Oct. 19) in Sioux City, Iowa.
The victory snaps a five-match losing streak for the Prairie Wolves and gives NWU their second GPAC win of the season.
Neither team was able to score in the first 45 minutes as the score was 0-0 at intermission.
Nebraska Wesleyan was the first to light the board as
Matt Woodman scored off an assist from
Zach Lind at the 54:02 mark in the second half.
Briar Cliff responded and tied the match in the 63rd minute when Dominic Wetzbarger scored on a goal shot from 20 yards out.
Nearing the end of regulation with the match looming towards overtime, Thorson stepped up and scored the game-winner from an assist by
Alec Weiss.
Nebraska Wesleyan had 16 total shots in the match, with
Kyle Jisa attempting eight total shots, two on goal. Briar Cliff had nine shots, but just three on goal.
