Hastings won the five set thriller 25-20, 25-27, 14-25, 25-18, 16-14 to earn to complete the season sweep over the Prairie Wolves.
The Broncos, who were receiving votes in the NAIA poll, scored the final five points of the first set to earn the win. The set was tied 20-20, but two straight aces, two kills and two NWU errors gave the Broncos the victory.
Set two was a back and forth battle that saw Hastings have two set points with a 24-23 lead and a 25-24 lead, but each time NWU answered. A kill by
Katelyn Walsh tied the match at 25-25, then a Hastings error gave set point to NWU. The Prairie Wolves earned the win with a kill by Mackenzie Aston to tie the match 1-1.
NWU came out firing in the third set and built up a 12-4 lead. Hastings had no answer, as the Prairie Wolves hit .469 as a team in the third set to earn the 25-14 win and take a 2-1 advantage.
The Prairie Wolves led 7-3 early in the fourth set and remained in the lead until 13-13 tie. From there, NWU struggled as they had 11 hitting errors to finish negative for the set and Hastings tied the match at 2-2.
In the fifth set, Hastings led 6-3 early, before NWU went on a 9-4 run to take a 12-10 lead. A kill by Walsh tied the set at 13-13, but Hastings answered with a kill to have set point at 14-13.
Alyssa Stanek put away a kill to tie it at 14-14, before Hastings blocked her next attempt to lead 15-14 and got the game-winning kill on the next exchange.
Katelyn Walsh led the Prairie Wolves with 18 kills, while
Malory Dahl added 12 with five blocks.
