Nebraska Wesleyan University has named Mike Gay as its first head women’s bowling coach. It was announced in October 2015 that women’s bowling would be added as a varsity sport in the 2016-17 school year.
Coach Gay participated in bowling at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under the direction of Coach Bill Straub. Under Coach Straub’s leadership, Coach Gay learned college bowling rules and regulations at the NCAA level. As a bowler himself, Gay has bowled ten 300 games.
Currently he is the volunteer assistant coach for the Lincoln Southwest High School boy’s and girls bowling teams where he has gained exposure to Nebraska high school coaches, players and programs. He also has experience in national bowling events and tournaments and has participated in the latest bowling analysis technology to develop player’s abilities.
Aside from bowling, Coach Gay has made several stops coaching tennis. He is currently the head tennis coach at Lincoln Christian High School. He also coached at Beatrice HS and Doane College. In college, he played tennis at Kearney State College.
Coach Gay received his bachelor degree from Peru State College, his Masters of Education degree from Concordia University and completed his PhD., in curriculum and instruction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2012.
He will begin at NWU immediately to start recruiting student-athletes as the Prairie Wolves will begin varsity competition in the 2016-17 athletic season.
