Since 2017, Mike Roth has been a pivotal figure as an assistant coach for the Nebraska Wesleyan University softball program, dedicating his efforts to refining the team's skills in various aspects, including outfield play, catching, and hitting.
Under Roth's guidance, the Prairie Wolves have achieved significant milestones. From 2017 to 2019, the team's batting average rose from .281 to .301, highlighting Roth's influence on enhancing the team's offensive capabilities. In 2021, the team experienced a remarkable power surge, hitting 25 home runs—an impressive improvement of 19 more home runs than the 2019 season.
The success story continued in subsequent years, with the team maintaining a strong batting average of .285 in 2022 and further increasing it to .294 in 2023. This consistent performance underscores Roth's ongoing impact on the offensive prowess of the Prairie Wolves.
Notably, since 2021, Coach Roth has played a crucial role in helping the team sustain a slugging percentage consistently above .400. This statistical achievement reflects Roth's commitment to fostering a powerful and effective offensive strategy for the Nebraska Wesleyan softball program.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Nebraska Wesleyan, Roth serves as the Director and Head Coach of Nebraska Prodigy Fastpitch in Lincoln, Nebraska. His leadership extends to the founding of the Nebraska Elite Fastpitch Association in 2014, which later merged with Colorado Prodigy Easton Fastpitch. Under Roth's direction, Nebraska Elite has undergone remarkable growth, expanding from two teams to 44 combined teams within the Prodigy program.
Before joining Nebraska Wesleyan, Roth actively contributed to the development of softball programs in the Lincoln community. He served as a volunteer hitting coach for the Lincoln North Star softball program from 2018 to 2019, eventually becoming the head coach. Roth's coaching experience also includes serving as an assistant head coach and head JV coach at Lincoln Pius X High School from 2013 to 2015.
Roth's commitment to the softball community extends beyond coaching, as he played a pivotal role as a board member and coach for the Lincoln Rockets softball program, contributing to the organization's attainment of 501(c)3 non-profit status. Additionally, Roth spent three years as a volunteer board member with the Lancaster Youth Softball Association (LYSA) program, actively participating in the automation of 14 seasonal tournaments and a 105-team league at the LYSA complex.
From 2017 to the present, Mike Roth has been a driving force in shaping the success and growth of softball programs, both at the collegiate level with Nebraska Wesleyan University and within the broader softball community in Nebraska, emphasizing a strong and dynamic offensive approach for the Prairie Wolves.
