One of best collegiate runners in Nebraska history and in the United States is entering his second season coaching at Nebraska Wesleyan. After a decorated career at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, coach Ferguson continues to run professionally for Under Armour.

His first season coaching did not disappoint as he helped guide the distance runners to great success.

In cross country, the men’s XC team finished 8th and women 14th at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship. Conner Ross earned his 1st career Midwest All-Region honor on the cross country course.

On the track, coach Ferguson guided the distance squad to 5 All-Conference performances including the conference title in the 4x8 outdoors. The distance group accounted for 9 marks that landed on the NWU all-time top 10 charts. Noah Thomas broke both the 5,000 (indoors) and 10,000 freshman records while McKenna Smith broke the 800 (outdoors) freshman record.

At the national level and regional, Reed Emsick qualified for the NCAA National Championship both indoors and outdoors in the 800. At both the indoor and outdoor national meet, Emsick became a second team NCAA All-American both times. Both marks in the 800 also earned him All-Region honors.

As an athlete at UNK, Ferguson was a 5 x NCAA DII National champion in the 800 and a 9 x NCAA All-American. During the 2024 season, he was named the USTFCCCA National Track athlete of the year in DII. He has collegiate personal bests of 1:45.46 (800). 1:15.96 (600), and 4:03.70 (mile).

During the summer professional circuit in 2026, Ferguson ran 1:44.55 at the USA National Championships earning the silver in the elite field of professionals. At the 2025 USA Indoor Championships hitting an indoor best of 1:44.92. In the summer of 2024, Ferguson made it to the semifinals of the Olympic trials in the 800. His current personal best in the 800 as of the summer of 2026 is 1:44.41.

Ferguson is a graduate of Fremont Senior High School in Fremont, Nebraska. He received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Nebraska-Kearney in May of 2024.
