Steve Pointon is entering his 7th season in 2025. He began as an assistant coach for the Prairie Wolves in 2018 and became Recruitment Coordinator in 2021.
Pointon is a native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he played and coached soccer at various levels. He began his coaching career with Ireland’s largest micro soccer program in 2005. Since moving to the USA in 2007, Pointon served as a coach with the Allen Park (Michigan) High School Soccer Programs at both Varsity and Junior Varsity Level (2008-2010).
Since moving to Lincoln in 2013, Pointon has been involved with coaching through Lincoln Public Schools as well as the Soccer Academy with the Lincoln YMCA. He was an Assistant Coach with Lincoln East High School from 2013-17, Junior Varsity Head Coach for Lincoln High School 2017-2023 (during which time they won 2 City Championships) and is currently Varsity Assistant for Lincoln Southwest. He is a Nebraska State Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) State Coach and often coaches at Sporting KC Clinics.
Coach Pointon is the Pastor at Fourth Presbyterian Church and has a degree in Law & Politics as well as professional qualifications in Youth Leadership Development, Lay Ministry, Business Management, Conflict Management and Peacemaking. In addition to this he is an Adjunct Instructor for both the Archway Seminar and Health & Human Performance Department and serves as an Academic Advisor as well as a New Student Advisor.
Pointon holds a USSF “C” license as well United Soccer Coaches (USC) National Licenses and is a certified and accredited NFHS Interscholastic Coach.
In his time as an assistant the team has compiled a record of 50-48-15.
He is married to the Rev. Dr. Melodie Jones Pointon and they have two children, Phoebe and Eli.
